"By helping children talk about their reading, we help them to express themselves about everything else in their lives. Conversation is essential in our lives. Most of us, as the saying goes, don't know what we think until we hear ourselves saying it."
Aidan Chambers
«Al ayudar a las niñas y niños a hablar de sus lecturas, los ayudamos a expresarse acerca de todo lo otro que hay en sus vidas. La conversación es esencial en nuestras vidas. La mayoría de nosotros, como suele decirse, no sabemos lo que pensamos hasta que nos oímos diciéndolo.»
Aidan Chambers
Theoretical framework
Booktalking is built on Aidan Chambers's (1983) Tell Me approach, Tell Me With The Reading Environment (Thimble Press, 2011), and The Open University’s Reading for Pleasure Research and Practice Coalition (2015-2024).
Dialogue
Conversation is an opportunity for people to reflect. It is essential to be able to express ourselves about what we think and feel, as well as about what we don't like, and also to listen to and understand the perspectives of others.
Connection
Talking about books broadens the perception of reading, creates connections, and fosters a richer and more complete understanding of literature and, at the same time, of the world around us. It can enrich our
experience and open us to new ideas and approaches.
